А вот -достаточно жесткая критика))
You can’t blame a band for being what they are. Criticizing Saving Abel for being derivative, unoriginal and unabashedly populist is missing the point — those aren’t negatives in their books. They aren’t trying to reinvent the wheel; they’re just out to write catchy rock songs that fall into one of two acceptable modern rock categories: the pull-out-your-cell-phone ballad, and the mosh pit-inspiring, metal-tinged anthem.
When you judge a band like Saving Abel, you have to use the same criteria somebody in the '80s would use to judge a band like Ratt. Sure, it isn’t timeless, but a song like “Round And Round” still rocked. On that basis, Saving Abel’s second album is actually kinda decent.
Songs like the title track and “Stupid Girl (Only in Hollywood)” are notable for arena-sized riffs, more than competent guitar solos, and clichéd lyrics (honestly, how many songs can possibly be written about the degrading effects of Los Angeles on women?) The Mississippi natives even manage to stand a bit apart from their peers by incorporating some local flavour into their tunes. “Mississippi Moonshine” and album closer “Hell Of A Ride” have some greasy delta-blues licks backing up the power-chording.
Vocalist Jared Weeks takes time out from singing about one-night stands to extol the virtues of true love on "Angel Without Wings" — these guys are not rocket scientists, as I’m sure the hypocrisy of a guy who just wants to fuck one second and pines for one woman to save him the next is lost on them. But at least it’s got a good hook to it.
You won’t remember this album at this time next year. The lyrics are almost embarrassingly bad. The band are almost completely undistinguishable from Theory Of A Deadman, Breaking Benjamin, Sick Puppies and their ilk. But hey, its summer, the riffs are pretty good and the anthems soar.
So do as the boys in Saving Abel probably do: grab a beer and shut off that brain for a bit.
